WOOH! I think I'm finally starting to improve. Not so good at lighting, or actual grass shapes, but... you get the general idea. Details are my nemesis. I couldn't figure out how to detail the grass... any ideas, anyone? Also... the heads of the ladybugs are rather grotesquely large. Notice the lack of a vanishing point yet?
Took me 3 hours or so. Does that count as a speedpaint?
not bad. Haven't drawn grass on that scale to give you advice on that but I guess the surface of the grass has soft specular reflections. it is not cylinder spike shaped but as a long flat leaf, inwards in V shape spike at the end.
You could use Photoshop paths to layout the basic shape of the object (grass), fill and duplicate, changing size, merge, new layer, rotate scale, merge, duplicate layer, etc. For the background perhaps making a grass brush or use a pattern filter? Haven't tried it recently, but it could work.

Aw, I'm already +watching you...
