OH NO! THE NUCLEAR REACTOR JUST BLEW! RUN!!!!
Hmm... my geek is showing.

Pretty fun. I'm rather happy with my improvement last year.
Here's the raw render: [link]
All the rest was done in After Effects. Amazing what you can do with a ZDepth and velocity pass...

Tools: 3DS Max 2011, Realflow 2012, After Effects CS5.5, VRay 2.0, Rayfire, Optical Flares, Frischluft DOF
Realflow sim time: 30 minutes
Render time: 10 minutes

Feedback, anyone?

Heh... I really wasn't sure what that stuff was. It's just an exploding ball stuffed with liquid. Maybe it's the power source of the future...

Nope, no tut. Sorry. It required Rayfire, Realflow, and a ton of AE plugins... a tad expensive. It wasn't that hard, though. Just make a sphere, smash it in any way you want, than fill the inside with fluid. The best way to do the liquid is through Realflow, but you could always use PhoenixFD or something else. Then render, export to photoshop or something, and color-correct the life out of it. I also added DOF, lens flares, motion blur, and tons of particle thingies. :D

Aw, Realflow's easy. Just mess around with scale and viscosity. It's just a matter of sticking some emitters in random places and seeing what happens. At least, it is for me. I rarely have an idea of what to make when I start. :D

The only thing I'd recommend is sticking a meshsmooth or turbosmooth modifier over the mesh before rendering. That adds some subdivisions, making the fluid look much better.
